USA Triathlon CEO Rocky Harris to Speak at 8th Annual TBI Conference

Author: Jan Fambro

Date: 10/25/2017

AUSTIN, TX (October 25, 2017)Triathlon Business International (TBI) today announced that Rocky Harris, newly appointed CEO of USA Triathlon, will be one of the main speakers at the 2018 TBI Conference, January 26-28, 2018 at the Mission Palms Resort in Tempe, AZ. This will be Harris’ first major presentation to the industry, and he will be sharing the “state of the state” for USA Triathlon and outlining his short- and long-term vision for the organization.

Harris joined USA Triathlon from Arizona State University Athletics where he was COO. His previous roles have also included Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President of Major League Soccer’s Houston Dynamo and AEG Global Partnerships; Director of Sports Marketing and Marketing Sponsorships at Reliant Energy; and communications roles with the Houston Texans and the San Francisco 49ers. Harris is an avid age-group triathlete and has been competing for the past eight years. In April he was named to Sports Business Journal’s prestigious “Forty Under 40” list, which pays tribute to the best and brightest sports executives under the age of 40.

Harris has stated in previous interviews that the major challenge not only for USA Triathlon, but also the entire sport, is to regain the upward growth pattern the sport once had. “One of my primary objectives is to collaborate with those committed to growing our sport in the U.S., including groups that we weren’t as willing to collaborate with in the past. We’re not in competition with anyone at all and plan to lock arms with the industry to take triathlon to new heights. As the governing body, it’s our responsibility to bridge those relationships and remove any barriers that exist.”

TBI president Dan Empfield echoed those sentiments saying, "The larger race operators and sanctioners in triathlon are coming together. This was not always the case. Sometimes in the past industry players worked at cross purposes. Not anymore, and I think this will become evident at our conference. Rocky Harris considers us all allies in the same foxhole and his message is what our conference attendees will want to hear."
